This photo was taken at a VA hospital, where the surrounding forest is carved up by a former patient. The gentleman spent most of his life there. The front tree is carved with the date of 1938, although there are trees dating up to the 1960s. Much of his carving was religious in nature, and some referred to Communism and conspiracies.
